Dino Grip Carborundum Filled Nosings are a quality aluminium nosing with an Anti-Slip infill designed for creating a safe, Anti-Slip stair edge.

Our Carborundum Filled Nosings are manufactured from aluminium, with inserts that combine coloured aggregates with aluminium oxide in cured epoxy. Available in a number of different profiles depending on your requirements and can easily be installed to almost any step, without creating a trip hazard.

Fixing Recommendations

Stainless Steel Screws

We recommend the use of stainless steel screws which do not rust or stain. 

Whilst mechanical fixings are all that are required to secure Dino Grip Carborundum Nosings, wherever possible, the application of an appropriate high strength gap filling adhesive will provide a secondary fixing in the event that the mechanical fixings should fail.

Apply a 6mm bead of high strength gap-filling adhesive around the periphery of the Carborundum Nosings and in horizontal strips at approximately 200mm centres.  Immediately press the Carborundum Nosing firmly to the substrate to ensure adequate transfer of adhesive. A firm bond will be achieved in about one hour under normal circumstances and conditions. Secure with the mechanical fixings and allow the adhesive sealant to cure before allowing excessive traffic to use the area.

 

Anti Slip

Dino Grip Carborundum Filled Nosings are manufactured from aluminium with inserts that combine coloured aggregates with aluminium oxide in cured epoxy which creates a tough and durable anti-slip stair nosing.  

Do It Yourself Installation

Dino Grip Carborundum Filled Nosings are designed for do it yourself installations and are easily installed by mechanically fixing into place.

Dino Grip Carborundum Filled Nosings compliment steps by making a feature of the nosing against the existing surface as well as providing a safe anti-slip surface. 

 

 

Dino Grip Carborundum Filled Nosings are designed for installation onto timber, stone, concrete and other solid surfaces. 

PREPARATION

Onto Wooden Surfaces:

We recommend that the surface is firstly swept and then cleaned with a suitable decking wash or detergent to remove mildew and algae (on external surfaces).  Suitable cleaners are readily available on the market or alternatively please use our Dino Grip Decking Wash.

It is highly recommended that all rotten decking / timbers are removed and replaced prior to the installation of Dino Grip Carborundum Filled Nosings.  The nosings are only designed to be installed onto sound existing surfaces and are not designed to be installed onto decking or wooden surface that are questionable or rotten.

Onto Concrete or Solid Surfaces:

We would recommend that the surface is firstly swept and then cleaned with a suitable detergent to remove mildew and algae (particularly on external surfaces).  Suitable cleaners are readily available on the market or alternatively please use our Dino Grip Decking Wash.

Dino Grip recommends that the surface is sound and level.  It is essential to remedy any defects with an appropriate repair medium and allow to fully cure prior to the installation of the nosings. 

 

SAFETY

When installing Dino Grip Carborundum Filled Nosings we would recommend that PPE (personal protective equipment) is worn. 

 

CUTTING

If you need to cut the nosings to size during your installation, these can but cut using an industrial grinder. 

We would recommend that a suitable dust mask with protective safety goggles and gloves are worn.  The insert strips should be cut externally or in well ventilated areas.

Dust residue can be disposed of using normal waste disposal methods. No special permissions or licenses are required.

FITTING

Wooden Surfaces

To place the pre-drilled profile upon the step and, through the holes, mark the fixing positions onto the step. 

Remove the profile and drill a 1.5mm pilot hole into the wooden surface ready to accept the fixing screw.  Brush away all drill dust.

Place the profile back onto the step edge and using stainless steel wood screws, secure the profile to the step by drilling into place.

Additional adhesive can be used (if required) by applying a layer of adhesive or bedding compound to the underside of each piece prior to fixing into position.

Metal Surfaces

To place the pre-drilled profile upon the step and, through the holes, mark the fixing positions onto the step. 

Remove the profile and drill a 5mm through hole into the metal surface. Re-place the profile and then secure into position with screws, washers and nuts.  Alternatively to fix into place using a rivet gun and rivet fixings. 

Additional adhesive can be used (if required) by applying a layer of adhesive or bedding compound to the underside of each piece prior to fixing them into position.

Concrete Surfaces

To place the pre-drilled profile upon the step and, through the holes, mark the fixing positions onto the step. 

Remove the profile and using a 6mm masonry drill bit to drill the holes to the depth of the plastic plugs being used.  Brush away all drill dust and insert the plastic plugs flush with the step surface.

Place the profile back onto the step edge and using stainless steel screws, secure the profile to the step by drilling into place.

Additional adhesive can be used (if required) by applying a layer of adhesive or bedding compound to the underside of each piece prior to fixing them into position.

Additional Adhesive

Whilst mechanical fixings are all that is required to secure the stair nosing, wherever possible, the application of an appropriate high strength gap filling adhesive will provide the following benefits:

A secondary fixing in the event that the mechanical fixings should fail.

The adhesive will also create a barrier against the "Drumming" noise that is created when fitting the nosings over the existing substrate. Apply a 6mm bead of high strength gap-filling adhesive around the periphery of the stair nosing and in horizontal strips. Immediately press the stair nosing firmly to the substrate to ensure adequate transfer of adhesive. A firm bond will be achieved in about one hour under normal circumstances and conditions. Secure with the mechanical fixings and allow the adhesive sealant to cure before allowing excessive traffic to use the areas.

In all instances, seek and follow the adhesive manufacturers’ recommendations for use.

CLEANING GUIDE AND TIPS

Dino Grip would recommend that the surface where the nosings have been installed is regularly cleaned.  This allows all surface debris to be removed and reduces the build-up of mildew and algae. 

The best way to keep the surface clean is by using a mould and mildew cleaner which can be applied using a stiff broom and removed with clean water.

GENERAL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

The carborundum filled nosings should be checked on a regular basis to check the fixings. Circumstances will vary, based upon the volume of foot traffic etc, however as a guide, monthly inspections would be advisable in high trafficked areas.
